The Party

Who goes down, and how they grow.

A party is one to four members. You name each one and pick a class and a color.

The fighter is the soldier, trained in heavy weapons and heavy armor. The wizard reads written magic and says what kind of work an untried find was made for, or that it will harm you. The rogue sets off fewer chest traps and is handed the first digit of every vault lock.

If you go down alone you may go as the king himself, trained in every weapon and able to read all written magic.

The wizard, the king and the hero each have a well of mana beside their health. Casting written magic spends mana from it, and nobody else has one.

Gold is shared by the whole party. Experience is not, a kill pays only the member who struck the killing blow. A Bath of Fates, the training ground and some magic pay it too. Each level adds one to six maximum health points and raises a caster's maximum mana, but refills neither. Every third level from 4 adds one to attack bonus. A level is a reading of the experience earned, so losing enough drops it. Level means experience, floor means depth.
